There is so much to explore, from boat tours to secluded islands of Capri and Ischia or day trips to the bustling cities of Sorrento, Salerno or Napoli, which offer excellent shopping and exquisite dining. If you long to dive into the local history, take a drive to Pompeii and Herculaneum, the ruins of ancient cities preserved in time by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in the first century. Due to the rugged nature of the coastline, many of the beaches accessible by foot are only small rocky inlets lined with pebbles.
