Tortola Villas

The British Virgin Islands may look like a couple of tiny dots in the Caribbean just east of Puerto Rico but look closer and you will find that the BVI is made up of the main islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, St Peter and Necker Island along with numerous smaller islands all within easy reach of one another.

Consequently, a wonderful trip to, say, Tortola can become the beginning of an exciting voyage of discovery where you explore idyllic unspoiled islands, ramble along the shores of unpopulated cays while embracing your inner pirate.

Within the shores of the BVI you will soon discover that the true treasures of these amazing islands lie in the Robinson Crusoe-esque splendour of the natural world.

Tortola

The main island of the BVI is Tortola. At just under 22 square miles it’s big enough to be interesting as a destination in its own right while at the same time allowing you an opportunity to fully explore all it has to offer and make trips out to some of its sister islands.

Exceptional Villas has a long-standing association with the British Virgin Islands and is delighted to represent some of the most luxurious and exclusive Tortola villas. The magnificent 8 acre villa at Steele Point commands a dramatic view across the turquoise sea to some of the nearby islands. Perched on a promontory with access to the fabulous ocean, this is the ideal destination for a very private holiday experience.

Smuggler’s Cove beach is nearby with a host of other gorgeous Tortola villa rentals. Villa Maya with its own pool and private terrace capture a lush blue and green panoramic view. The mile long, excitingly named Smuggler’s Cove beach is a short walk away and offers calm and warm waters lapping against white sands.

History

The history of the Virgin Islands is as colourful as the delightful views from many of the exceptional vantage points around the island. Passing from the Spanish to the Dutch and finally to the English, the islands were the preferred hiding places for the most notorious pirates of the time. Blackbeard and Captain Kidd lived in these islands finding the wonderful anchorage in the natural harbours a great place to park their ships while they provisioned for their next foray out.

Local historians have spent a lot of time piecing together the stories of these pirates and identifying the places on the islands where they encamped. The capital of Road Town has a great deal of history attached to it as it was the main harbour that saw most of the island’s activities during its years as a tobacco and sugar cane growing colony.

Tortola Vacation Rentals

Areas like Belmont (beautiful mountain, to you and me!) is one of those heavenly areas that is home to very elegant Tortola vacation rentals. St Bernard’s Hill House is one of those Tortola rentals that bring that old world colonial charm wonderfully to life.

Gracious living spaces opening out onto terraces that offer a sweeping view across the canopy of royal palms. With balmy trade winds gently rolling across these green hills, it is the perfect conditions for a relaxing vacation.

Getting There

Tortola has a number of direct flights that touch down each day from the US and Europe. Although it is a British Territory its currency is the US dollar. With a relaxed yet luxurious vibe, Tortola offers high-end vacation experiences but without the nonsense that one might find in similar islands around the world.

You can enjoy a world of delicious dining with fabulous ingredients plucked from land and sea. Added to this are the array of wonderful activities for lucky visitors to these shores. Sailing, snorkelling, diving, fishing, hiking or just some old-fashioned romantic beach combing. A world of adventure and relaxation awaits.

Whether you sail into one of the beautiful harbours to take up residence at one of the Tortola villas to rent or fly into the international airport, once you arrive onto this island a level of unparalleled relaxation immediately begins.

No PIrates(probably)

The pirates may have initially thought that the gold they were chasing was to be grabbed from trade ships moving across the Caribbean but I’m guessing, during their quieter times, relaxing on the shores of one of the 60 amazing islands that go to make up the Virgin Islands, they soon understood what had true value. As you sit at sunset, gazing across the perfect horizon, dotted with verdant islands and cays, you will be viewing a natural landscape that’s unchanged for generations.
