Majorca’s Unique Offering

The sophistication of this island is not to be under-estimated.  Palma, its capital, is one of the richest cities in Spain and has an eclectic and glamorous vibe.  Majorca does have the boom-boom holiday resorts that appeal to the younger party scene but the majority of the island is made up of picturesque towns, fishing villages and marinas that have retained their particular charm and beauty.  It isn’t unusual as you work on your perfect tan on the terrace of one of our Majorca luxury villas, to see a fleet of yachts appear on your horizon.  Pop round to Puerto Portals for a lovely lunch and check out the mega yachts.  If you are interested in getting out on the water, at Exceptional Villas we are delighted to arrange for you to have a crewed yacht sail you around the island calling in at some of the beautiful deserted coves for a swim and picnic.

So many of our clients revel in the benefits of luxury villas in Majorca with private pools.  Each day begins and ends with a swim, your private terrace seamlessly flowing outwards from the spacious and comfortable living room of your home from home.  At Exceptional Villas, we love matching you to your perfect villa.  The size of your party, their ages and activity levels, the desire to be near to or distant from a busy town.  Each element is carefully considered so that your party can drop its luggage and daily cares for the duration of their vacation and get down to the real work of having fun!

Food for Thought

Majorca is an evolved tourist destination.  It understands the requirements of its many guests and offers not only the most delicious and freshest of local foods but has a wonderful offering of international cuisines.  You can be assured of lots of sumptuous tapas accompanied by light and fresh local wines.  Olive and almond trees proliferate across the island so you will find each aperitif is perfectly paired with a bowl of fat and juicy olives.  The almond appears everywhere on menus too – both sweet and savoury.  Do try the Ajo Blanco – a chilled almond soup, the white alternative to the more common red gazpacho or indulge in the daily treat of almond infused pastries accompanied by a rich coffee.

The North of the Island

Some of the finest luxury villas to rent Majorca has to offer, lie on the North and North Western coast of the island.

There is an endless list of artists and writers who not only holidayed on this spectacular island but who created permanent homes in this tranquil place.  Frederick Chopin wrote his Preludes while living in Valldemossa in the north of the island.  The narrow winding streets, warm yellow stone buildings, the tiled roofs reaching upwards towards blue skies, became the inspirational location for some of his best known and loved classical piano pieces.  This picture-postcard town, tucked into the hills, is still a vibrant centre of craftsmen and women who create beautiful jewellery, paintings and leatherwork.  A day spent walking around, soaking up the incredible views and picking up some lovely unique gifts for friends back home, is not to be missed.

Heading a little further north to Deia, you can walk in the footsteps of the celebrated novelist Robert Graves.  In fact, he is buried in the old cemetery in this gorgeous artists’ enclave.  As you weave around the limestone cliffs that skirt the North-Western perimeter of this island, the vast open views of sky and sea really have the power to inspire everyone to artistic greatness!  Pack your swimsuits so you can drop in to one of the pretty coves for a snorkel or swim.

Palma

Even before the wheels of your jet touch down on Majorca, you will be mesmerised by the view of Palma from the air.  The Castell Bellver, The Royal Palace of Almudaina and Palma Cathedral dominate the Palma marina and skyline.  Castell Bellver (meaning beautiful view) is a singular round castle, the only one of its kind in Spain.  It’s been keeping watch over the city of Palma for over 700 years.  The Royal Palace of Almudaina is a medieval palace built in the 1300’s as the royal residence for the Majorcan’s king.  A tour of this amazing historic site, reveals vivid stores of the Knights Templar and their medieval world.

Next to the Palace is the imposing gothic Cathedral La Seu.  With a nave reaching even greater heights than the famous gothic cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, you get an idea of how impressive a building this is.  Regardless of any religious leanings, the interior of the cathedral offers architecture enthusiasts an opportunity to admire the genius of engineering that produced this structural masterpiece.

Past to Present in a Short Stroll

After a leisurely ramble around the ancient marvels of Palma, you can take a casual stroll to the Santa Catalina area of this compact city where you can stop for a delicious glass of fino before indulging in some of the freshest tapas.  This quirky area has arty stores, casual eateries and a real boho vibe.

The nearby more affluent streets like Passeig des Born offer a tree lined boulevard experience with some high and mid-priced retail.  In fact, the whole city of Palma is rather small and easy to navigate on foot.  It’s a city that is equally captivating at night as it is in daytime.  In fact, you can join the wonderful Spanish custom of el Paseo where the locals go for a slow walk with friends and family after work.  This fabulous tradition sees groups of all generations stop and chat, have a pre-dinner drink and just see and be seen.  A wonderful way to decompress after a busy day before getting down to the serious business of dinner and socialising.

Art

Spain’s two greatest modern artists feature prominently in the Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Palma.  Some spectacular works by Picasso and Miro along with works by Gaugin, Magritte and Giacometti make up an eclectic offering that includes pieces in the mediums of painting, ceramic and sculpture.  Housed in a historic building, this is an incredible opportunity to see world-renowned works of art in such an accessible venue.

Whichever of our luxury villas to rent in Majorca you fall in love with, you can be assured that a carefree and seamlessly managed vacation awaits you.  Our staff have first-hand knowledge of Majorca and know those amazing ‘off the beaten track’ places for you to visit that will give you an authentic and memorable experience.

Our luxury villas in Majorca can sit on verdant hillsides, commanding a breath-taking view over the countryside – changing from a green and lush view in daytime to dark sumptuous hills dotted with village lights under a star-filled night sky.  Our coastal villas, capture the magical perfection of the sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean.  All of the luxury villas in Majorca with pools Exceptional Villas represent are visited by us each year to ensure the highest of standards are maintained.

We simply love Majorca and always want to translate everything great about this island paradise into the holiday of a lifetime for you.  So, if it’s a birthday, honeymoon, anniversary or wedding, let us open the portal to a celebration like no other.  Majorca is a sophisticated and beautiful island that welcomes each visitor like a new friend.  Prepare to fall in love!
