Welcome to Orson Welles Historical Estate, a magical legendary 4-bedroomed estate located in the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California . This sprawling estate was not only lived in by Orson Welles (and indeed many other well-known celebrities), but it is here that he wrote the Academy Award-winning script of “Citizen Kane”.
Although situated atop Sunset Boulevard, the estate itself is more in the style of a Cape Cod property. Set on its own 15,000 square foot private hillock, this splendid house is just a short walk from Sunset Boulevard’s fine selection of boutiques, restaurants, and exciting nightlife. This spectacular property can accommodate up to 8 guests comfortably.
Orson Welles Historical Estate was built in 1928 by the actor Sidney Toler, who played Charlie Chan in the late 1930s. The house has cultivated a very unique and priceless history since then. Whilst Sidney Toler and Orson Welles may have been the first famous residents, future owners included Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, and David Bowie. It would be impossible to walk through this home and not conjure up images of these fascinating artists who walked, talked, laughed, and loved in this very place.
Inside, the house boasts many unique features including its’ own private bar with a pool table and a Club Room with jacuzzi. The Living Room is spacious boasting an oversized couch and armchairs around a working fireplace. Dark wooden floors and neutral yet welcoming colours enhance a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The living areas are flooded with natural light with large windows everywhere. Outside, guests can enjoy the use of the lagoon pool, an outside dining area with BBQ grill, Firepit, and a fabulous patio with seating and sun loungers providing breathtaking views of both the canyon and the city below.
Creative cooks will enjoy preparing delicious meals in the very well equipped and spacious kitchen, which features all modern appliances and conveniences. The adjoining dining area has a round dining table to seat 6. At Exceptional Villas, we are happy to arrange for a wonderful private chef to cook for you if you so wish, either for an evening dinner or two or fulltime service throughout your stay.
It’s no secret that Orson Welles enjoyed a tipple or two and it’s not difficult to imagine him sipping a Scotch On The Rocks whilst puffing on an oversized cigar in the private bar. Close your eyes and imagine Frank Sinatra too, perhaps crooning “Summer Wind” in this bar, entertaining his Hollywood friends.
The outdoor dining area is quite the place to have a BBQ in the evenings from where you can stroll to the patio area overlooking the bright lights of Hollywood below.
Orson Welles Historical Estate is a truly wonderful place to stay, whether you’re a dedicated Hollywood buff or not. This unique and intimate property not only offers comfortable and delightful accommodation, but it’s a place where your imagination can run wild. From here, you can also enjoy all the wonderful attractions that Hollywood has to offer.
