If you are travelling from the United States and are a US citizen, then no passports or immunizations are required although it is highly recommended that you do carry a passport or an official US state issued official identification card with photograph.

All non United States citizens MUST carry an up-to-date passport with either a pre cleared ESTA or appropriate visa. Entry into San Juan is exactly the same as into the United States.


About The Airport

The main international airport in Puerto Rico is located in Carolina which is 3 km or 5 miles from the capital of San Juan. The airport is officially known as Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (IATA: SJU, ICAO: TJSJ).

San Juan Airport is the gateway to for many of the smaller Caribbean Islands and thus acts as a hub for Cape Air, Seaborne and Air Sunshine. The largest carrier to the airport is JetBlue Airways and operates out of Terminal A. The top ten destinations from the US to Luis Muñoz Marin Airport are New York, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Newark, Philadelphia, Chicago, Tampa, Boston and Atlanta.

The airport has one main building which is divided into four different operating sections; A, B, C, D.

  • Terminal A: is used entirely by JetBlue and opened in 2012.
  • Terminal B: is used by Delta, United, Southwest and Spirit and was reopened in 2014 following a renovation.
  • Terminal C: is used by Volaris, Condor, Norwegian, Liat Airlines, American Airlines, Copa, and Air Antilles. It has undergone a major renovation recently and was reopened in March 2016.
  • Terminal D: Is mainly used by Tradewind Aviation and Seaborne Airlines.

Facilities

The facilities at San Juan Airport are good. There is a variety of souvenir shops Duty Free shops, local craft shops, news agents, cafes and restaurants. In addition there is complimentary wifi throughout the airport.

VIP Lounge

The lounge at San Juan is called Global Lounge Puerto Rico. It is located airside just after you pass through security in Terminal C. It is open daily from 6am to 6 pm. If you are not travelling business class or do not have an airline card, it is possible to pay for a day pass.

The lounge accepts:
