Resorts in the Maldives

The Maldives is one of the most beautiful places in the world to visit. The Maldives are made up of a collection of 1,190 Coral Islands, each surrounded by crystal-blue lagoons and grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls and spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometres making the country one of the most unique destinations in the world.

Each island is surrounded by the most pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters imaginable.

Guide to Maldives

192 of the Islands in the Maldives are inhabited and of these, 105 are luxury resorts.  The uninhabited islands are used for industry or farm land or often used as picnic islands for resorts where tourists can visit for the day or for private romantic meals.  This amazing part of the world is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing beach vacation or luxurious honeymoon.

Each of the resorts in the Maldives are surrounded by the most amazing waters. The water here is always calm and features an array of sea life. The Maldives are one of the best places for visitors to enjoy scuba diving, fishing and snorkelling. Each of the islands have their own “house reef” which acts as a natural aquarium and coral garden that is ideal for snorkelers and scuba divers to explore. The water enclosed by the house reef is perfect for swimming as it protects from the strong currents and large ocean waves.

Exceptional Villas have a large inventory of luxurious villas and resorts in the Maldives. Niyama Resort is one of the newest and most stunning resorts in the Maldives. The resort is located on the South-Western Atoll of Dhaalu and is only a short 40 minute seaplane ride from the capital Malé. The resort is the perfect choice for a honeymoon or a family trip.

There are some fantastic restaurants to choose from, Tribal, Epicure and the floating restaurant ‘The Edge’ to name but a few. The range of activities is superb from Zumba to wine tasting and The Float water sports centre to Tai Chi classes. For something more relaxing a trip on a traditional boat called a Dhonis or a visit to Lime Spa for a treatment is a must. Our favourite part of this resort is that it is the only resort in the world to have an underwater nightclub.

Cheval Blanc Resort is one of the most luxurious resorts in the Maldives. It is located within the Noonu Atoll on the gorgeous island of Randheli. The island is a 40-minute ride in a luxurious seaplane.  The resort offers a great selection of restaurants and activities to enjoy throughout your stay. You can dine in the relaxing surroundings of The White restaurant or the fine dining restaurant Le 1947. For a more animated dining experience a visit to The Diptyque Japanese restaurant is great fun. There are many water activities to choose from here ranging from windsurfing to sunset cruises. There are also lovely children’s clubs who cater for smaller children and teens, so there is plenty to suit guests of all ages.

Soneva Fushi is another breath-taking 5-star resort that is located in the Baa Atoll and is one of the largest resorts among the islands. The amenities at this resort are endless and we recommend this resort for families especially as there is so much for them to do. Our guest specialist can help you organise the perfect trip by offering a complimentary concierge service and this service is always included when you book a vacation with us.

Huvafen Fushi is another beautiful resort located on the North Male Atoll and is only 30 minutes by speedboat from Malé airport. You can enjoy world class diving or go fishing as well as snorkelling and exploring the beautiful reef. The resort has amazing restaurants to choose from including a dining experience in the underwater wine cellar. The Lime Spa offer some of the most wonderful and unique treatments in the world and is situated in an over water setting that can’t be beaten.

Some of our favourites Villas in the Maldives include Ocean Pearl at Niyama Resort, Over Water Villa Cheval Blanc and Cube Villa at Huvafen Fushi Resort.

The Maldives is known for its amazing diving opportunities with crystal clear water offering fantastic visibility and shallow lagoons which is every snorkelers dream so there are plenty of things to do while on the islands. There are also areas where the reef walls offer a kaleidoscope of sea life but this recommend for the more experienced divers.

The climate in the Maldives is highly inflicted by monsoons but most days it has really sunny weather with light gentle sea breezes. The temperature would usually be around 30°C (86F) all year around while the sea temperature would be from 22°C to 28°C (84F). The high season is from November to April while the Festive season being the most expensive time to travel. November would have the most unsettled weather and can persist well into December however it tends to only rain in short bursts and the sun is never far away. The best time to travel would be between January and March as this is when skies are blue and the water is so calm.

Malé is the capital and largest city in the Maldives and most guests will arrive into Male airport. Guests are then transferred to their hotel or resort by seaplane or boat. These are the two means of transport that are used for most trips between the islands.

The Maldives have their own currency – Maldivan, however the USD (US Dollar) is widely accepted. As tourists are located on resort islands – local laws and customs do not apply however it is important to note that nude sunbathing is not permitted anywhere in the Maldives. If visiting local inhabited islands, it is recommended that you dress modestly and respect the local laws.

When you book a vacation in the Maldives, you will receive complimentary concierge services included prior and during your stay. Our guest specialist will be happy to plan your entire trip from start to finish. They can help organise your transfers, groceries at your villa, restaurant reservations, special dinners on the beach, day trips to other islands or anything else you can think of that will make your trip that bit extra special.
