Welcome to White Owl, a 4 bedroom private oceanfront villa located in the exclusive Tryall Club in Montego Bay.
White Owl is one of the original villas at Tryall, built when Tryall was converting from a beautiful plantation on the Caribbean, midway between Montego Bay and Negril, to a first-class resort. Situated on a double lot on the ocean, it commands the eastern end of Beach Drive.
It is punctuated at one end by the signature fourth green bordered by the sea on the famous golf course and at the other a small canal leading to the ocean. All told, the property boasts 76 000 feet of waterfront with magnificent views and easy access to the water.
The home is in traditional Jamaican colonial style with two wings, each terminating in very large suite sized high cone ceiling master bedrooms on the sea, providing privacy and serenity. These bedroom air conditioners normally are idle, since the sea breezes keep the rooms delightfully cool. There are two additional bedrooms: one is a standard large bedroom, the other slightly smaller, both accommodate two standard single beds or a king bed – your choice. All four bedrooms have large en suite bathrooms. There is an additional full bathroom. While there is a beautiful, large living room, the wrap around porch is the place to play backgammon in one area, read in another or converse in a third.
This is the first season this villa has been available for rent. For over 50 years it has been the home of one family and fully occupied by the family and their guests and friends. Typically, eight to ten people sat down for al fresco dining on the covered porch with garden and sea views. The staff will serve all meals, either formally or buffet/family style. The family did both.
STAFF The staff is housed in a third separate wing off the large redesigned kitchen. The head of the house, who also is the chief cook is a renowned shopper. She not only uses the onsite Great House market but once a week visits the Montego Bay open market for fresh produce and fruit. She has long relationships with a local fisherman who brings his boat to the jetty by the swimming area with his catch. She looks forward to receiving your order well in advance of your arrival to be sure that she can meet your desires during your stay.
The driver who serves the villa has a deep knowledge of the Montego Bay area and other areas of interest. You can arrange tours with him, visits to Negril, nighttime excursions and so forth. Of course, you have to be willing to tear yourself away from the beach, the golf course, the tennis courts, and the Beach Café and the Great House-- and most especially from the special Jamaican experience that is White Owl.
On 2,200 acres, Tryall’s golf course is among the most beautiful in the world. Its 18 hillside and seaside fairways have been home to the Johnnie Walker, Mazda and other PGA championship events. The resident pro offers workshops and private lessons. The Tryall tennis club features nine Nova Cushion courts, some lit for night play, with world-class pro’s on call. All white attire required.
The beach is well planned for parents and children. Have lunch at the beach bar. Work out in the well-equipped gym and compete in the new Usain Bolt Games Room at the Great House (teens love it). Jog the marked trails. Snorkeling, kayaking, Hobie Cat and sunfish are complimentary. Glass bottom boats, charter fishing, a boat to the reef and any captained craft attract various fees. Enjoy the week’s events, including the Monday Night Manager’s Cocktail Party and the Wednesday and Friday night beach parties and buffets.
On the hill, enjoy the historic Great House for daily 4:00 tea and sweets. Shop at the convenient commissary and chic boutique, and meet for happy hour and snacks at the casual bar. Also at the Great House is the new Usain Bolt Games Room open all day and night for ping pong, pool, air hockey, foosball, shuffleboard, chess and checkers, board games, comfy reclining chairs and HDTV. And don’t miss the massive Tryall pool (ping pong table there too). The Tryall Club is thoughtfully designed to please toddlers, preteens, tweens, moms, dads and everyone from teens to octogenarians.
Condé Nast Traveler chose the Tryall Club for its Gold List of "the best places to stay in the whole world.”

White Owl was laid out perfectly for our multi-generational group with everything centered around the outdoor space. The location of this villa was really convenient to the community beach and the golf carts made it easy to get around. The head of household Latoya thought of everything and made each day special in some way. Marlene and Andrea kept the place looking great and the twice-a-day laundry was really above and beyond. It was fantastic to come home with clean laundry. Rannoy's cooking was excellent. Our first night he made us steaks so tasty that my father-in-law asked him to make them again another night. My husband and I were really into the Jamaican nights he cooked for us, especially the curry goat, braised oxtail and rice and peas, oh and the key lime pie, cookies, chocolate cake, cheesecake and birthday cakes made from scratch. Both Rannoy and Latoya took extra care with my 3 year old son Jake. They made sure he had his coveted life cereal for breakfast and a few meals actually prepared him something special because he's not as adventurous an eater as the adults. The Tryall Club exceeded almost all of my expectations, especially the Reggae night (both food and music). The beach and beach bar/grill were really convenient with really good pizza and sandwiches. The swimming area was really nice and the chairs and beach towels made it easy.
