‘Hiri’ is a horseshoe-bay, jungle-rimmed oasis located on the south coast of Sri Lanka, around 180kms from Colombo. It’s a short drive from Dikwella (around 2mins) but is tucked away from the main highway in between Matara and Tangalle giving a quaint experience along the peaceful coast of Sri Lanka.
While the location is quiet and offers many places to relax, the area is becoming popular for digital nomads, surfers, and those looking to truly relax. Hiriketiya is the hidden gem of the Southern Coast and offers all that you could possibly require for a vacation in paradise.
There are surf shops that wouldn’t look out of place in any cool coastal town and beachside bars serving up cocktails from mason jars. Despite its progress, Hiriketiya still manages to be the kind of place where the thick jungle meets the sea and time become totally irrelevant - and we absolutely love it for it.

Amazing Stay
We had a brilliant stay at Ginger Palm for half term last week. The villa is brand new and has everything you could want. Rooms are large, beds are very comfy and shower was brilliant after a day in the surf. Staff kept the place so clean and literally could not do more for us. We had breakfast every day, lunch once when it didn’t suit to go out and four evening meals - all were amazing and tremendous value. Villa arranged covid testing for leaving SL which was super easy and $30 per adult (results came back in 16 hours). Villa organised a day trip for us to Udawalawa National Park and another trip up to Mirissa for whale watching - so good. We will go back for the service, the food and the proximity to Hiri beach (2 mins down the road). Highly recommend!
Fabulous holiday with family and friends
We had the most fabulous holiday at Ginger Palm villa with our children and friends. The villa is just steps from gorgeous Hiriketiya Beach and is perfect for family holidays. The rooms are large, the AC is strong, the pool is enormous and the staff are wonderful. Finally, everything the chef cooked was delicious. The vegetarian curries and grilled prawns in particular were amazing. If you do fancy a night out Smoke and Bitters does amazing food and cocktails and BomBora is the perfect spot for sundowners.
Amazing
We had a fabulous stay at Ginger Palm. It truly has everything you could wish for. Very comfortable rooms, huge swimming pool, fantastic food and a great team to attend to your every need. The villa is ideally located, within v short walking of the beach with its laid back beach bars and surfing, but also offering a relaxed sanctuary for quieter moments. We did not want to leave and are already planning our return! Cannot recommend it enough.
Immaculate villa moments from Hiriketiya Beach
Ginger Palm Villa in Hiriketiya Beach without a shadow of a doubt is one of the most incredible places I have visited, the best thing is that the villa and surrounding area has something for everyone so it is perfect for a group get together. Whilst it is minutes walking distance from all the fun Hiriketiya Beach and Dikwella Beach have to offer (surfing, body boarding, sunbathing, bars, cafes, restaurants, yoga, shops, spas), once you step into the villa you are in a completely different world. The villa is newly built, the owners have impeccable taste and have designed it with their own family and friends in mind. Every detail has been thought of, the ensuite bedrooms are incredibly spacious, everything is top quality and every bedroom has brand new air conditioning. They all look over a central courtyard and pool with the forest behind (it was a real great seeing birds and the occasional monkey). It can be rented out as a whole or by rooms and as such it has a number of different places where people can relax during the day, whether that is by the pool, in rooms off the pool, a quiet reading area, by the bar or on the roof terrace. The villa has permanent staff who are delightful and so keen to make sure their guests are having a wonderful time - nothing is too much bother. The chef is superb and gives the option of experiencing Sri Lankan food at its best or a more western menu or a complete mixture. I highly recommend the egg hoppers for breakfast and the Sri Lankan curry selection for dinner. Without a shadow of a doubt I highly recommend Ginger Palm Villa to anyone, you are guaranteed to have the most incredible trip.
Downton Abbey service in Sri lanka.
I have always wanted to visit Sri Lanka & finally visited in February. We arrived late at night to a lovely welcome from the staff of the Villa. The Villa is very tastefully decorated with great seating areas, a lovely library nook, a bar to sit up at for a few evening drinks. The pool is quite a large salt water pool with lots of lovely loungers. The Villa is surrounded by lovely Palm Trees & is very private. The beach is a minute walk to the most lovely surfing beach, with lots of local characters & surf lessons are very accessible & good value. Some great bars & restaurants locally with even the odd cow strolling by & monkeys climbing trees. But what really makes the Villa is the staff they are so helpful, the meals are great and they even accommodated my gluten free requests. It really did feel like Downton Abbey sitting in this beautiful Villa being looked after by the lovely team. Can't wait to go back again.
The Perfect Holiday
This was our 2nd time to Sri Lanka and this is by far the best accommodation and food we have had. The staff were amazing, the house is perfect and the food is the best we have had in Sri Lanka. The beach is about 200m down the street . The house must be new as the amenities and architecture is as good as any 5 star resort we have stayed in around the world. It was perfect for my partner and I.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Ginger Palm villa, the staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful and the villa is beautiful and very clean. We particularly enjoyed relaxing afternoons at the sun lounges by the pool. A real highlight is definitely the food at the villa - the Sri Lankan curries, hoppers for breakfast and desserts were all amazing! Not to mention the location is perfect, a 2 minute walk away from the beach with heaps of great places to eat/drink close by. They can also organise a tuk tuk if you need and airport transfers. Having travelled around Sri Lanka, I can without a doubt say this is the best place we stayed. Could not recommend enough. Thanks for the best time!
