Dunkerron House - Kenmare

Description

Dunkerron is a mid 19th century Victorian manor house which has been extensively renovated, modernised and refurbished in 2013. This luxurious holiday home is situated on a 70 acre estate on the shores of Kenmare Bay and located less than 2 miles (3km) from cosmopolitan Kenmare town.

Full of light and soft atmospheric colours, great care has been taken to make you feel comfortable and welcome. The entire property is furnished in a classic but understated style in keeping with the character of the house. Original Irish art throughout augments the peaceful atmosphere of the house. The house oozes comfort, character and style with a generous living room, vestibule, conservatory, formal dining room (with formal table which seats up to 16), play room each providing wonderful living areas. The house is served by a large fully equipped kitchen which is combined with an adjoining informal dining area. Log fires in the living room, vestibule and dining room provide a wonderful atmosphere while the living room, vestibule, conservatory, dining room, play room and sheltered south facing sun porch all enjoy stunning views over the estate’s 15th century castle ruin, Dunkerron Castle, in the foreground and the Caha mountain range in the distance.

On the first floor, the house boasts 7 large double/twin bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms. All bedrooms enjoy views over the Dunkerron estate while all bathrooms have power showers with 5 of the 7 bathrooms have baths too.

The house itself overlooks the ruins of Dunkerron castle, a mid 15th century stronghold of the O’Sullivan More clan. Outside the property also includes a traditional styled walled garden, which is currently being renovated, as well as traditional farm outbuildings. The property enjoys its own access onto Kenmare Bay which bounds the estate. Residents can stroll through beautiful woodland footpaths through the estate. The estate also has its own recently constructed deck area which provides a large relaxing area overlooking the Bay and Caha mountains.

The property offers a perfect venue for reunions or family gatherings, as a luxurious base for a family adventure in the south west of Ireland or simply as a luxury holiday home. The house has proven very popular with families arranging weddings at the nearby Dromquinna Manor, offering an ideal venue to nuptials wishing to provide a casual post wedding get together for friends or a pre wedding family dinner.

While the house is normally rented on a self catered basis, we understand that sometimes one wants extra options available to you to complete your holiday experience. Accordingly, by arrangement, we can offer you and your group additional services including a daily or occasional cleaning service and/or housing keeping.

Through our association with the prestigious Limetree restaurant in nearby Kenmare, we are also in a position to offer catering options for those interested, whether it be breakfast and/or evening meals (either daily or on request).
