Welcome to Bahama House, a wonderful 11-bedroom residence located on the famous pink sand beach on Harbour Island. Bahama House fits perfectly into the laid back and relaxed style of the island. Let this home be your haven as you enjoy all the splendid features that the island has to offer. An icon on the island, the property dates back to the 1800s and has been beautifully restored and styled to its original Bahamian heritage. One of the island’s most prized boutique hotels, Bahama House offers guests unrivalled hospitality, chic accommodations and a vast range of island adventures for the entire family.

This stunning property is made up of two main buildings and two stand-alone cottages. All areas of the property boast privacy, comfort and luxury and are the perfect place to vacation on the island. There are many wonderful aspects to this property that make it spectacular. The first of these being the indoor-outdoor lounge. This space is completed with an art-book-filled library, tropical gardens and WIFI throughout. This charming area of the house is an ideal place to relax with family and friends or just to chill by yourself and enjoy the peace and serenity of the Bahamas. Read a book, watch tv or just relax in your own company.

This property features 11 spectacular rooms including 2 guest cottages. The rooms are all completed with TVs, iPod docking stations, Crestron technology control system, Lutron lighting system, minibar, air-conditioning and Malin + Goetz bath products. These charming and well-styled rooms are full of colour and comfortable furnishings. One of our favourite rooms has to be The Chapel Suite. Its spring-like look of conch pink and fresh palm-shoot green is one of the reasons why we love it so much. There’s a breath-taking aspect with a view of the colourful hotel complex, and the shared terrace begs to be used for idle fan-wafting or beach-read leafing.

The pool is a feature of the property that cannot go unmentioned. The freshwater outdoor pool at the centre of the hotel is roomy enough for laps, and there’s a tub with relaxing massage jets to soak in. Whether you want to go for a brisk swim in the morning or have a relaxing afternoon in the tub, Bahama house will cater to it. Submerged speakers add a pool-party atmosphere underwater (choose from the hotel playlist or stream music from your phone) and coolers on the deck are filled with beer, water and sodas for guests to raid as needed. This is a great way for all of your family and friends to come together and enjoy each other’s company as well as the wonderful amenities of Bahama house. American design company Janus et Cie provided the fleet of stylish sun loungers and the hotel’s helpful staff can whip up cocktails on request.

There’s no on-site spa, but your experience manager will contact you before arrival to inquire if you need the services of Bahama House’s coterie of resident masseurs. Beyond in-room pummelling, you can book sessions at the Dermalogica Spa, a five-minute walk away. Enjoy a relaxing massage or feel rejuvenated after a lovely skin treatment. Within its quaint powder-blue bungalow, the spa’s therapists carry out high-tech treatments such as face-mapping, BioActive skin peels and dermabrasion – but if you’re not in for the full MOT, lo-fi facials and beauty treatments are offered, too. Feel refreshed and revived after a lovely spa day catered by Bahama House.

Families seeking privacy and space should book one of the two-bedroom Cottages. The hotel’s best suited for older kids who can confidently make use of the water sports equipment.

Get acquainted with the island’s native artists while flicking through the tomes in the hotel’s living room. We love the collection of decorative cane mirrors (in floral and starburst patterns) covering one wall, and the statement pieces by tropical design maestro Paul Aronson. Take a close look at the 1800 Building, which dates back to the late 17th century: the kitchen has been partially built into what was once the hotel’s bread oven.

Pets can stay for $500 a booking (prices vary depending on the size of dog); the hotel can provide beds, bowls and towels. Fidos must be kept on a leash or caged throughout the stay, and they mustn’t swim in the pool or paw the furnishings.

BY FERRY FROM NASSAU:
• Upon arrival at North Eleuthera airport, an Eleven staff member will meet the guests
to escort them on a 5-minute land taxi and
10-minute water taxi to Harbour Island.
