Why Visit?

We have local knowledge on every aspect of Barbados and our team are please to advise you on the destination. There are so many reasons to visit. Barbados is one of the most beautiful tropical islands in the Caribbean. It is predominantly famous for its stunning scenery, great beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters, fascinating history, culture, colorful tropical fish, sporting tradition, and some of the best restaurants and designer shopping in the Caribbean region.

The island is a sophisticated, glamourous destination with high-end properties and 5-star hotels. For this reason, it is frequented by many celebrities and jet-setters.

Our team of experts feel it offers a unique combination of Caribbean culture and sophistication, which is hard to find on some other islands. Blessed with one of the best locations on the eastern side of the Caribbean, the island has excellent year-round weather.

Based on our experience, it is the perfect island for anyone looking for authentic culture and history combined with an idyllic tropical paradise. As a result, it is one of our clients' favorite destinations. Its the local people that make the destination unique and why so many visitors return to the pradise island. Barbadians, known as Bajans, always greet you with a smile and are warm and welcoming. Bajans will always make you feel like this stunning, charming Caribbean paradise is your home. The incredible sandy beaches and picturesque views are also prominent features of this sophisticated island. You can read more information from our Barbados experts in our Essential Guide to Barbados.

Which is the Best Area to Stay in Barbados?

Based on our personal experience, the best area to stay depends on the type of vacation you love. There are four distinctly different parts of the island, but just two are the most popular tourist areas. These are The West and the South Coasts.

The West Coast

This side of the island enjoys the calmer Caribbean waters.

When choosing a vacation rental,  our team has a deep understanding of our guests requirements and they love the West Coast because of its pristine Caribbean water & wonderful island vibe. It is the location for the best beaches, restaurants, Barbados Villas and shops. Our concierge team have visited this part of Barbados many times and will be glad to recommend their favorite places for you to visit.

The most sought-after coast stretches from Speightstown in the Northwest and Batts Rock in the south, close to the capital, Bridgetown. It is just 14 kilometers between the two; therefore, no matter where you stay on this coast, everything is easily accessible.

Holetown is another firm favorite location that our villa specialists would recommend you visit. It is a trendy town in St. James parish with many excellent restaurants, chic cafes, designer shopping & local chattel shops, a large modern supermarket for grocery shopping called Masseys, and vibrant nightlife on 2nd street.

Speightstown, north of Holetown, has a natural, authentic feel with open market stalls, vendors selling fruit and veg, and more. It has enjoyed a rejuvenation in recent years, and there are some great restaurants for lunch and dinner.

The South Coast

Our team at Exceptional Villas recommend a stay on the South Coast if you are looking for a more action-packed location. The South Coast is full of buzzy restaurants and bars and, therefore, the best place for anyone looking for a more lively vacation destination. In addition, the South Coast has some beautiful beaches, such as Carlisle Bay, Dover Beach, and Rockley Beach.

The North and East Coast

The North and East Coasts are on the Atlantic, so they tend to get choppier waters. However, the island's East Coast is rugged and beautiful and is lovely to tour or connect with nature.

The Crane Resort, located on a wild and beautiful beach, is one of the best places to stay on the East Coast. Our team have personally visited the resort and would recommend it for those traveling with younger children and are looking for a resort rather than a standalone villa.

Beachfront Villas in Barbados

Our team has in-depth knowledge of Barbados and one of the most common requests from our guests is to stay in a villa right on the beach. The island is well-known for having the most gorgeous beaches. We feature some of the nicest Barbados Beach Villas. Many of our home is on the beach, offering incredible sea views and gentle sea breezes. So, of course, staying in a beach property means relaxing on the beach with your toes in the sand within minutes of arriving at your new home. Our Barbados concierge Rowena, can make the best recommendations when it comes to what beaches you should visit.

Our team is very familiar with the best beach front villas. Most of our clients request a beachfront villa on the most popular beaches, including Paynes Bay Beach, Gibbs BeachMullins Bay Beach, or the renowned Sandy Lane Beach.

Paynes Bay Villas

Our villa experts favorite beach is Payne's Bay. It is one of the most popular beaches in Barbados, and one of our guests' favorite villas on Payne's Bay is New Mansion. Our team have personally been to see this property. This home is unique because it is one of the only private beachfront villas with a private pool on this beach. The vacation rental has the ideal location offering guests stunning sea views, crystal clear waters perfect for swimming, and a fabulous private retreat. In addition, you are just a few minutes walk to the nearby Daphne restaurant.

Another favorite is the brand-new The Villa at the St James. A 4,540 sq. ft. beachfront property, the ultra-modern property enjoys fantastic views and according to our Barbados experts, is one of Payne's Bay's most excellent beachfront villas.

Planning Tips

Our Concierge team has intimate knowledge of all aspects of travelling to Barbados and can provide advice on many questions you may have.

What is the Best Currency to Take?

The best currency to take with you is the US dollar. The official currency is the Bajan dollar (BBD), but US dollars are widely accepted. One US dollar is worth two Bajan dollars. However, we recommend bringing some cash with you, as some vendors are cash only.

The best currency to bring is US dollars. When you pay with US dollars, you will, in most cases, receive your change in BBD$, so you will inevitably get some Bajan currency in your pocket.

Do I Need a Car?

Based on our experience, we highly recommend renting a car, although it is not essential. An excellent bus service runs on the West Coast, so if you plan to spend most of the time relaxing, you may wish to consider not having a rental car.

However, if you wish to see a little of the island or explore some of the beautiful sites, a car rental is beneficial and more cost-effective than using taxis.

What is the difference between a cook and a chef?

Our team is well-versed in outlining the differences of a cook and a chef for you.

A chef is a formally trained professional who will also have experience working in various restaurants. Chefs are generally able to offer different types of cuisines and cater to various palates and requests.

Cooks are not formally trained but offer tasty homemade meals for clients. Meals are, in most cases, local Bajan specialties rather than gourmet food.

Do I Need a Plug Adaptor?

You will need a plug Adaptor  if you travel from outside the United States or Canada.

The standard plugs used are the same as in the United States, so if you travel from the US, you do not need an adaptor. The standard voltage is 115 V.

If traveling from the UK, Ireland, or Mainland Europe, you must bring an adaptor.

Some of the luxury Villas in Barbados will provide adaptors, but please check with our concierge before your arrival, and they will be able to advise you accordingly.

Should I book the fast-track?

Based on our personally experience, we highly recommend all guests avail of the fast-track service at Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI). The airport can be hectic sometimes, and the service ensures a smooth and speedy transition through passport control, baggage claim, and customs.

Your fast-track representative stays with you until you connect with your car hire company or airport transfer.

On What side of the road do people drive ?

They drive on the left side of the road. It is the same as in the UK and Ireland. If you have never driven on the left, we highly recommend an automatic rental car as it is easier to concentrate on the road.

Our top tip for first-time drivers on the left is to practice around the car park a few times and remember to think left when you leave! When traveling around roundabouts, the rule is to give way to traffic coming from the right.

When is the Best Time to Travel?

Our villa specialists and concierge team for Barbados have traveled at many different times of the year. However, based on our experience, the best time to travel is between November and May. The island experiences excellent weather, and the island's shops and restaurants are open year-round.

The official high season is mid-December to mid-April. However, the average temperatures are between 26°C (79°F) in January and 29°C (84°F) in August, so there is very little difference.

The winter generally experiences slightly cooler weather and less humidity than the summer, which can experience occasional heavy showers. However, the rain never stays out for long, and the sun is almost always close.

There is no wrong time to travel. It is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands and has less risk of hurricanes than any other island.

If you are happy with the slightly increased humidity of the summer, the rates are significantly less, and it is, therefore, a great time to travel to take advantage of value for money.

Are the beaches nice?

Our team travels extensively to the Caribbean and Barbados has some of the most stunning beaches imaginable. There are more than 80 beaches surrounding the island, many of which are among the world's best beaches.

Expect to experience soft white sands, the clearest of turquoise waters, and swaying palm trees. The West and South Coasts are home to the calmest beaches, and the water is often bath-warm.

Exploring the beaches is one of the top things to do while on vacation on the island. We recommend Paynes Bay Beach, Sandy Lane Beach, Gibbs Beach, Mullins Beach, and Alleynes Bay. Most of our Barbados Beachfront Villas have locations on these beaches too.

Crane Beach on the East Coast, while not suitable for swimming unless you are a solid swimmer, is exquisite and worth a visit.

HOW DO YOU GET TO BARBADOS?

Getting to Barbados is also very easy. Whether traveling from the UK, mainland Europe, The United States, Canada, or other parts of the world, you will find connections to The Grantley Adams International Airport easy to access.

From the UK, there are direct flights from London and Manchester with British Airways and from London with Virgin Atlantic. From mainland Europe, there are flights from Amsterdam with KLM.

WHERE IN THE US FLIES DIRECT TO BARBADOS?

From the United States, there are direct flights from the following airports.

  • New York (JFK) – Jet Blue
  • Miami - American
  • Charlotte – American
  • Washington Dulles – United
  • Boston – Jet Blue

We are also pleased to say that Premium Air Providers offer exclusive rates to fly Private Jet.

WHERE ARE THE BEST BEACHES?

The best beaches have their location on the glamorous west side of the island. Our Concierge team has intimate knowledge of all the best beaches and can advise which one to visit depending on what you are looking for, whether its a busy beach offering water-sports or a quiet calm beach perfect for a long walk.

How Big is Barbados?

The island is 430 square kilometers in size. Shaped like a kidney, at its widest point, it is 15 miles or (25 km) from East to West and 20 miles (32kms) from North to South.

Does Barbados Have Villas?

It is one of the premier villa destinations in the Caribbean, if not worldwide. We feature over 350 luxury properties in Barbados.

All the high-end properties come with daily housekeeping, and many have an entire staff from Butlers to Chefs.

How does it work with staff?

Our skilled team are on hand to explain exactly how staffed villas work. Our Barbados specialist Yvonne will be pleased to explain all of this by phone with you. The Island has one of the best service cultures in the Caribbean, and many will come with some level of staffing. Our team are able to compare and contrast having a full staffed villa versus a self catering one and offer the pros and cons of each.

Generally speaking, the Housekeepers tend to the bedrooms, bathrooms & living areas. They tend to work 8 am-3 pm. A cook typically prepares two consecutive daily meals six days per week, so guests choose breakfast/lunch or lunch/dinner.

Is Barbados a Romantic Destination?

Yes, it is one of the most romantic Caribbean islands and is perfect for a Caribbean Honeymoon or intimate wedding. Imagine sitting on your terrace with a glass of champagne or rum punch in hand, watching a spectacular view of the warm, pink sunset ahead.

You can also enjoy a lovely meal at a table right next to the water's edge with your toes in the sand, candles everywhere, the gentle lapping of the water close by, and the twinkling of a million stars overhead.

Where can you get married in Barbados?

You can choose from getting married on the sandy beaches to your secluded accommodation, or maybe in one of the beautiful old churches adorned with stained glass windows which can be found throughout the island.

Is Barbados Good For Nightlife?

Yes, it is great for nightlife and is one of the best places in the Caribbean if you enjoy great restaurants and buzzy bars.

There is something for everyone. For a down-to-earth local night out, some of the beach bars, rum shacks, or a fish fry are a great bet.

If you fancy sophisticated nightlife, the beautiful West Coast is the place to go. This coast is where you will find some insanely good gourmet restaurants and luxury 5-star hotels.

If you love to party, then the best place to go is the South Coast, where there is an endless selection of flashy cocktail bars and clubs where you can dance the night away.

It takes place on the South Coast between Welches Beach and Miami Beach every weekend. For anyone who loves a real shindig, we recommend going on Friday. That's when you can mix with all the locals enjoying live bands playing Caribbean Reggae, steel drums, and samba while eating fresh flying fish, marlin, and mahi-mahi from sizzling barbeques.
